Lions Host Demons In Regular-Season Finale

Southeastern can secure No. 3 seed with win, TAMU-CC loss

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team closes out the regular-season Saturday when it faces in-state rival Northwestern State in a Southland Conference contest at the University Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for noon. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. Southeastern (17-11, 9-6 SLC) will look to send seniors Patrick Sullivan and Robert Tibbs out on a positive note as the duo will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Sullivan, a four-year letterwinner, has etched his name in the Southeastern record books ranking first in games played (118) and blocked shots (264). The 6-foot-9 post player ranks ninth in school history in scoring (1,228) and is fourth in rebounds (766) and fifth in field goal percentage (.562).

Tibbs, a two-year letterwinner, has played in 55 games in his career for the Lions averaging 5.5 points. The 6-6 forward has posted career-highs in nearly every category in 2009-10, while ranking as one of the top free throw shooters (.779) in the Southland Conference.

Currently the No. 4 seed in next week's State Farm Southland Conference Tournament that begins Wednesday in Katy, Texas, the Lions can secure the No. 3 with a win over Northwestern State (10-18, 5-10 SLC) and a loss by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Sullivan, who is sixth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounds, leads Southeastern in both categories at 15.4 points and 8.4 rebounds respectively. Sullivan also ranks second in the league in blocked shots (3.4), swatting a school-record 89 in 2009-10.

Trent Hutchin is next in scoring for Southeastern at 10.3 points per game followed by Brandon Fortenberry (8.5), Rodney Jones (7.6) and Gary Dixon (7.6). Tibbs, Deshawn Patterson (5.3), Jason Marks (4.1) and David Ndoumba (2.7) are other key players for Southeastern, which averages 71.6 points per game while allowing 65.4.

Devon Baker leads NSU in scoring (14.2) followed by Damon Jones (13.5) and Will Pratt (13.1). William Mosley, who is second in the Southland Conference in rebounds (9.4), averages 6.0 points per game for the Demons while leading the league with 97 blocked shots.

The Demons, who have lost three consecutive games, average 75.3 points per game and allow 80.2.
