Lions Host Defending Southland Champ SFA In Key Hardwood Battle

Southeastern looks to snap six-game losing streak to Lumberjacks

Rodney Jones is fourth on the team in scoring (7.6)
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to the University Center where it plays host to defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin in a Saturday matinee.

Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game is also being televised on a tape-delayed basis on the Southeastern Channel (Charter Cable 18 in Tangipahoa, St. Tammany and Livingston Parishes; Cable 17 in Washington Parish).

Southeastern (14-10, 6-5 SLC), which plays three of its final five regular-season games at home, has defended its home court with an 11-1 record. The Lions have won three straight at the University Center since an 84-79 loss to league-leading Sam Houston State on Jan. 16.

In its last contest, Southeastern couldn't overcome a sluggish first-half start as it dropped an 85-73 decision at UT Arlington on Wednesday. Patrick Sullivan led the Lions with 21 points and eight rebounds while Rodney Jones added 15 points and Deshawn Patterson 13.

Sullivan leads Southeastern in scoring (15.8), rebounds (8.3) and blocked shots (72) while shooting a team-high 54 percent from the floor. Trent Hutchin is next in scoring (10.4) for Southeastern followed by Gary Dixon (7.8), Jones (7.6), Brandon Fortenberry (7.5), Robert Tibbs (5.8) and Patterson (5.5).

SLC East-leading SFA (18-6, 8-3 SLC) has won seven of its last eight which included a 62-51 victory over Southeastern on Jan. 23 in Nacogdoches.

Eddie Williams leads the Lumberjacks in scoring at 13.4 points per game and is followed by Jereal Scott (12.6) and Walt Harris (11.8) in the scoring column.

Tickets are available by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466. All Southeastern students are admitted free with their University ID.
