NASHVILLE – Jeffery Taylor and Steve Tchiengang scored 15 points each to lead four players in double figures and Vanderbilt raced out to a big lead at halftime and defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 85-52, on Saturday at Memorial Gym.

Lance Goulbourne added 13 points and Jeffery Taylor 12 as Vanderbilt (8-2) led from wire-to-wire and built a 53-24 lead at halftime. The Commodores finished 29-for-56 (51.8 percent) from the floor and held Southeastern (5-4) to 21-for-67 (31.3 percent) and 6-for-22 (27.3 percent) from behind the 3-point arc.

Festus Ezeli scored on the Commodores' first possession before David Ndoumba cut the lead to 2-1 with a free throw with 19:03 remaining. That would be as close as the Lions would get as Vanderbilt made 10 of its first 14 shots and built a 27-8 lead with 11:07 left in the first half.

Gary Dixon, who led all players with 16 points, hit a 3-pointer at the first half buzzer to cut the deficit to 53-24. Freshman Antonnio Benton added 10 points for the Lions, including a 3-pointer at the final buzzer, while Josh Lockett added a season-high six points and four rebounds.

Ndoumba paced Southeastern on the glass with six rebounds while Brandon Fortenberry added three steals.

Southeastern will return to action on Dec. 29 when it faces Savannah State in the first round of the Southern Miss Hardwood Club Holiday Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss.
