Lady Lions Travel To Face McNeese State, Lamar In Southland Volleyball

Southeastern earned split against SLC East rivals last month

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team looks to snap a season-high five-match losing streak beginning Thursday when it travels to face McNeese State in a Southland Conference contest Thursday at Memorial Gym.

First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Southeastern (10-17, 1-9 Southland) will conclude the weekend on Saturday when it faces Lamar (9-12, 5-5 Southland) in a 1 p.m. contest in Beaumont, Texas.

Senior Allison Jones leads Southeastern at the net averaging 2.47 kills per set followed by Courtney Donald (2.02), Cherish Krohn (1.94), Taylor Buckner (1.81) and Stephanie Mueller (1.42). Freshman Lindsey Young is averaging a team-high 7.96 assists per set for the Lady Lions with Arianne Cruckshank next at 7.57.

Defensively, Chelsea Barr and Alex Greer lead Southeastern with 2.87 and 2.82 digs per set respectively. Donald, Southeastern's leading hitter posting a .229 hitting percentage at the net, leads the Lady Lions with 62 blocks.

Priscilla Massengale leads McNeese State (10-15, 4-6 Southland) with a 2.90 kills per set average. Becky Bekelja leads the Cowgirls with 9.72 assists per set while Katie Kennedy is averaging a team-high 3.81 digs per set.

Jayme Bazile paces Lamar on offense, averaging 2.88 kills per set and a .344 hitting percentage. Alex Morford averages 8.65 assists to lead the Cardinals with Bailey Smith averaging a team-high 3.14 digs per set.

Southeastern rallied from a two-set deficit to claim a five-set win over McNeese State on Sept. 23 behind 19 kills each from Jones and Buckner. Cruckshank posted a double-double with 51 assists and 20 digs for the Lady Lions.

Lamar earned a three-set sweep of Southeastern on Sept. 25 as Tina Hobbs had nine kills with Bazile and Megan McStravick recording seven kills each.
