Lady Lions Fall in Three to Hot-Hitting Islanders

Southeastern returns to action on Thursday, hosting Nicholls at 7 p.m.

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Courtney Donald posted 11 kills and a blistering .688 hitting percentage, but the Lady Lions could not overcome a .297 team hitting percentage by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and dropped a 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 decision to the Islanders in Southland Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the University Center.

Behind Donald's strong performance, Southeastern (10-15, 1-7 Southland) posted a .159 hitting percentage in the loss. The Islanders improved to 10-11 overall and 4-4 in league action.

Donald and freshman Cherish Krohn, who finished with five kills, were the top attackers for the Lady Lions. Sophomore Arianne Cruckshank led the Lady Lions with 15 assists, while freshman Lindsey Young chipped in with eight assists.

Freshman Kinsey Williams had two block assists for Southeastern, while junior Paige Dollison and freshman Taylor Buckner each were credited with one block assist. Freshman Megan McMillin paced the squad with eight digs.

The Southland Conference's leader in kills per set, senior Emma Ridley, led the Islander offensive attack and finished with 17 kills. Freshman Logen Bourque was credited with 37 assists for TAMUCC.

Senior Jessica Jennett and freshman Micah Nolan led the way for A&M-Corpus Christi with nine digs each. Freshman Jordan Flemmer notched four block assists for the Islanders.

Donald and Dollison had three kills in the opening set, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hit .394 and Ridley recorded seven kills to take a 1-0 lead. A .346 hitting percentage in the second set sent the Islanders into the break with a two-set advantage.

The Lady Lions took an early 6-3 lead in the third set, but A&M-Corpus Christi battled back to take a 16-11 lead on a Nolan service ace. The Lady Lions cut it to three at 24-21, after a Ridley attack error, but the Islander senior star came back with a kill to complete the sweep.

Southeastern will return to action on Thursday, hosting Nicholls at 7 p.m. in a Southland Conference match in the University Center.
