Box Score 2 HOUSTON, Texas – A pair of true freshmen paced the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team Friday on the opening day of the Flo Hyman Invitational, but it was not enough as the Lady Lions dropped matches to Big 12 opponent Baylor and Big 10 foe Indiana.
Freshman
Courtney Donald led Southeastern with six kills and hit an impressive .231 and
Alex Greer added a team-high 14 digs as the Lady Lions dropped a 25-22, 25-15, 25-15 contest to Baylor in the opener.
In the nightcap, freshman
Alexis Braghini pounded out eight kills in 11 attempts and
Katie Collins dished out 23 assists, but Indiana (1-0) hit .386 at the net and recorded nine service aces in a 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 victory.
Southeastern (0-2) returns to action on Saturday when it faces host Houston in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
BAYLOR 3, SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA 0
The Bears, who were led by Katie Sanders' nine kills, hit .214 in the opening set and finished at .359 for the match. Anna Breyfogle added eight kills for Baylor while Taylor Barnes dished out 28 assists.
Lauren Mayer added four kills for the Lady Lions while Collins,
Taylor Buckner and
Kaprice Glover added three kills each. Collins added five aces for Southeastern while Mayer collected five kills.
INDIANA 3, SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA 0
Indiana (1-0), which hit .407 in the opening set, was paced by Ashley Benson with a match-high 11 kills with Jordan Haverly adding nine. The Hoosiers hit .321 and .429 to close out the match. Mary Chaudoin and Whitney Granado combined for 34 assists while Kelsey Hall added 10 digs.
Mayer and
Kalynn Evans collected five kills each for Southeastern while Slidell's
Margaret Pittman led the Lady Lions with eight digs with
Arianne Cruckshank adding six.
