Lions Wrap Up Road Trip at Jackson State

Southeastern looks to stretch win-streak to four

Ty Summerlin hit .500 with seven extra-base hits last week.
HAMMOND - Coming off a three-game sweep of Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (26-17, 15-9 SLC) will wrap up its longest road trip of the season when the Lions visit Jackson State (32-17, 12-9 SWAC) for the opener of a home-and-home series with the Tigers.

After a pair of heartbreaking losses in Baton Rouge to open their six-game road trip, the Lions recovered to sweep a three-game series at Sam Houston State to head into the finale of their longest road trip of the season with a head of steam.

Southeastern will try to extend their overall winning streak to four games and improve on their recent run of success against the Tigers.  The Lions have not lost to a Jackson State squad since April 10, 2001 and have rattled off five consecutive wins over the Tigers.

However, the Lions will have their work cut out for them against a Tiger squad that boasts a .340 team batting average and 32 victories on the year.

Fortunately, a resurgent Lion lineup will look to provide plenty of runs should a slugfest break out against the Tigers.

Senior infielder Ty Summerlin returned to form last week after battling a shoulder injury for much of the year.  The Vancleave, Miss. native earned Honorable Mention SLC Hitter of the Week honors after hitting .500 with an .875 slugging percentage with six doubles and a home run.

First pitch for Tuesday's contest at Jackson State is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Following Tuesday night's game, the Lions will return to Hammond to conlcude their home-and-home series with Jackson State on Wendesday.

Wednesday's first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
