HAMMOND –
Senior third baseman Jordan D'Arensbourg tied things up with his first homer of the season and sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino completed another Lion comeback win with a walk-off double in the tenth inning as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (6-3) rallied from a 7-0 deficit for an 8-7 win over in-state rival Southern in ten innings on Wednesday night.  The Lions have now come from behind in each of their first six wins of 2009.

Southern jumped out to an early lead against Lion starter Josh Bailey.  The junior righty allowed four runs on four hits in 4.1 innings while walking three and striking out four.  Southeastern lefty Shawn Herring came on in relief in the fifth and allowed three more runs over his 1.2 innings of work as the Jaguars plated seven in the first five frames.

Meanwhile, Southern lefty Chase Richard kept the Lions in check early.  After retiring the first 11 Lion batters, senior leftfielder Brandon Street, who was hit by a pitch, was the first Southeastern batter to reach base.

Richard kept the Lions hitless until freshman designated hitter Cody Gougler legged out an infield hit with one out in the fifth.  D'Arensbourg followed by reaching on a fielder's choice and came home to score on an RBI double by freshman second baseman Justin Boudreaux to get the Lions on the board 7-1 after five.

The Lion offense picked up steam in the sixth, sending eight men to the plate and scoring three more times to make it 7-4.  Sophomore center fielder Cass Hargis led off the inning with his first home run of the season and run-scoring singles from Gougler and sophomore catcher Josh Cryer brought the Lions to within three.

After making it 7-5 with a run in the seventh, D'Arensbourg tied things up with a two-run shot off of Southern reliever Jared Cozart in the eighth.

Junior right hander Chris Franklin moved over from third base to pitcher and pitched out of jams in the ninth and tenth to keep the Southern offense in check.

After a scoreless ninth, the Lions completed their comeback in the tenth as Boudreaux started a two-out rally with a base hit through the left side of the infield.  Sparacino followed and drove a double down the left field line to give Southeastern a walk-off win.

The Lions will return to action when they head to San Antonio, Texas to open the 2009 Southland Conference schedule against defending regular season champion Texas-San Antonio.  Game one of the three-game set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday.
