HAMMOND – Brian Babin capped off an efficient spring as he went 30-for-41 for 255 yards and three touchdowns and Chris Wilson caught 13 passes for 107 yards as the Southeastern White team earned a 27-22 win over the Southeastern Green team Saturday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.

Babin, a former St. Amant High product, threw scoring passes to Merrick Lanaux, Simmie Yarborough and Kyle Nichols and led a White team (Offense) that accumulated 407 yards total offense.

After having its first drive stalled, Babin engineered a nine-play, 72-yard drive that put the White team on the board. Babin connected with Lanaux, who sat out last year with an injury, on a 30-yard scoring pass.

Mike Frenette booted a 22-yard field goal to cap off a 16-play drive for the offense and cut the Green (Defense) lead to 22-10 before Babin connected with Yarborough on a 7-yard touchdown pass to close the gap to 22-17.

The Green, which registered five sacks and forced a turnover, stopped the offense on the first two drives of the second half before Babin engineered his final scoring drive of the afternoon. The senior directed the offense on an 11-play, 65-yard drive that was capped by a 6-yard scoring pass to Nichols. Babin kept the drive alive when he found Yarborough for a 17-yard gain to the Green 24 on fourth-and-11.

Babin found Nichols five plays later in the right flat and the redshirt freshman bulled his way into the end zone to give the White a 24-22 lead.

Jeff Turner capped off the scoring for the White when he connected on a 41-yard field goal.

Backup quarterback Tyler Beatty completed 10 of 12 passes for 74 yards for the White team while redshirt freshman B.J. Young was 4-for-6 for 38 yards. Yarborough, the 2008 Southland Conference and LSWA Freshman of the Year, caught nine passes for 72 yards for the Lions while Kory Theodore had six receptions and Lanaux five.

Mark Newbill led the Green with 10 tackles with Keithshone Dantzler adding seven. Redshirt freshman Tramaine Lucas had four tackles, two sacks and recovered a fumble for the Green while Kansas State transfer Jack Hayes had four tackles and a sack.

Southeastern officially opens the 2009 season in Strawberry Stadium on Sept. 5 against Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lions will play six games at home, including two Thursday night contests. Southeastern will also host Union (Ky.) College on Sept. 10 along with SLC rivals Sam Houston State (Oct. 17), Central Arkansas (Oct. 31), Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 14) and Nicholls State (Nov. 19).
