Lions Return Home to Host Lamar on Alumni Weekend

Southeastern baseball back at Alumni Field following five-game road trip

Ryan Boudreaux will look to help the Lions to a strong showing on Alumni Weekend.
HAMMOND - After concluding a five-game road trip, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (15-8, 6-3 Southland Conference) returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for the first time since March 18 when the Lions host the Lamar University Cardinals (16-8, 5-4 SLC) for a three-game weekend set with first place in the Southland Conference standings at stake.

The Lions, with a 6-3 SLC mark enter the weekend contest against the rival Cardinals in a three-way tie for first place with Texas State and Texas-San Antonio.  However, competition for the top spot does not end there.  The three-teams own the top of the standings by just one game with five teams sitting one game out of first place (Lamar, Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas, Nicholls State and Texas-Arlington).

The three-game weekend series between the Lions and Cardinals will give Southeastern a chance to regain sole control of first place in the SLC at the expense of Lamar.

The Lions enter Friday's series opener with moemntum on their sides.  Southeastern has won nine of their last 11 ballgames and nearly rallied from an eight run deficit on Wednesday night at South Alabama.

Southeastern's offense has been formidable this season, helping the Lions to 13 come-from-behind wins and entering the weekend fourth in the SLC with a .317 team batting average.

Meanwhile, a resurgent Lion weekend rotation will look to continue a recent run of success in conference contests this weekend.

Junior right hander Ryan Boudreux will get the start on Friday night.  The Lion starter will look to pick up where he has left off in his last two outings when he earned a pair of wins over McNeese State (March 13) and Central Arkansas (March 20).

Boudreaux allowed just one earned run in his last outing, a 2-1 Lion win at Central Arkansas that included just six hits and one walk allowed and four strikeouts in 7.1 innings.

The Lions will also look to take full advantage of the weekend atmosphere expected at Alumni Field.  Southeastern, which has led the Southland Conference in attendance the last two seasons, is expecting large crowds for Alumni Weekend.

The weekend festivities will be highlighted by a baseball alumni reunion on Saturday.  The Southeastern Alumni Association and the Lion baseball team will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of Southeastern's 1994 Trans America Athletic Conference Champion and NCAA Regional team.

Baseball alumni interested in attending can contact Larry Hymel at the Southeastern Alumni Association (985) 549-3228.

First pitch for Friday's contest between the Lions and Cardinals is set for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.  Live stats and streaming audio play-by-play will be available online at www.LionSports.net and the game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.
