Box Score

HAMMOND - Persistant rains in the Hammond area forced the suspension of game two of a three game weekend series between the Southeastern Louisiana baseball team (8-6, 2-2 Southland Conference) and the McNeese State Cowboys (9-5, 1-3 SLC) on Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Play will resume with a noon first pitch on Sunday with the Lions enjoying an 11-3 lead with one out in the top of the seventh.

The Cowboys struck first with three runs in the top of the first.  However, the Lions rallied with five in the bottom of the frame.

Sophomore right hander Brandon Efferson settled down after that, keeping the hottest lineup in the SLC off the board in the next five innings.  The Zachary, La. native allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out four before the suspension of play cut his afternoon short after 6.1 innings.

With Efferson keeping the Cowboys in check, the Lion offense went to work extending the Southeastern lead.    Freshman designated hitter Cody Gougler extended his personal-best hitting streak to nine games by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  Meanwhile, sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino drove in three on a two-for-three day, and senior outfielders Brandon Street and Brian McCants, as well as junior third baseman Chris Franklin, each recorded a pair of hits and a pair of RBI.

The Lions scored at least one run in five of their first six innings en route to their 11-3 lead.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled to begin one half our after the conclusion of game two.

Fans who had purchased tickets to Saturday's game will be allowed re-entry for the conclusion of game two on Sunday with the presentation of their ticket stub.  The ballpark will be cleared between contests.

Fans with tickets to game three of the series will be allowed entry for the conclusion of game two as well as game three.

All fans who purchase a walk-up ticket tomorrow will be allowed entry for both contests.

Live stats and streaming audio play-by-play will be available online at www.LionSports.net, and the game can be heard live on the air in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.
