HAMMOND - After rallying for its first conference win of the season on Sunday, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (7-6, 1-2 Southland Conference) will look to get back to .500 in SLC competition when the Lions open a three-game weekend series against the McNeese State Cowboys (9-4, 1-2 SLC) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The three-game set promises to be a highly-offensive series as the Lions boast a .315 batting average while the Cowboys come in hitting at a .339 clip as a squad.
The Lions have scored eight or more runs in ten of their first 13 contests and will look to take advantage of a Cowboy pitching staff that enters Friday night with a 5.75 ERA.
Senior shortstop
Ty Summerlin leads the way for the Lions after tying the school career hits record on Tuesday night against No. 3/4 LSU. Summerlin's single off of Tiger southpaw Chris Matulis was the 210th hit of his career. The Vancleave, Miss. native will look to set the new school record when he faces scheduled McNeese starter Tyler Davis on Friday.
Freshman outfielder/DH Cory Gougler will also enter Friday's series opener looking to continue a hot streak at the plate. The Huntsville, Texas native currently leads all Lion hitters with a .462 batting average and is on a seven-game hitting streak that includes five two-hit games and a .480 batting average dating back to March 1.
