Lions Travel To Face In-State Rival LSU

Southeastern opens four-game stretch in eight days

HAMMOND – Coming off a nine-day break for final exams, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Monday when it travels to face LSU at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (6-1), off to its best start since the 1982-83 season, returns to the court for the first time since a 77-55 victory at Jackson State on Dec. 5. The game against LSU (5-2) marks the first of four games in eight days for the Lions, who will face Southern at home on Wednesday before heading to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for games against Texas Southern (Dec. 19) and North Texas (Dec. 22).

Senior Patrick Sullivan paces a balanced Southeastern attack in scoring (15.7), rebounds (7.7) and blocked shots (18). Former Woodlawn High product Trent Hutchin is next in scoring at 13.0 points per game while Damon Forest follows at 11.6. Gary Dixon (9.6) and Brandon Fortenberry (9.4) are next in scoring for the Lions, who lead the Southland Conference in scoring offense at 82.0 points per game.

Southeastern has won its last four games since an 82-67 loss at Mississippi State on Nov. 19. The Lions, who have 11 of 13 players averaging 10 or more minutes per game, have outscored their opponents by nearly 19 points per game this season.

LSU won last year's contest, 90-61, behind a combined 57 points from Marcus Thornton and Tasmin Mitchell. Sullivan, the Lions' all-time leader in blocked shots, scored 17 points for the Lions while Fortenberry added 10.
