Islanders Spoil Career Nights By Srajer, Greer In SLC Clash

Lady Lions host UTSA on Saturday for Senior Day at 2 p.m.

HAMMOND – Jessica Srajer recorded a career-high 17 kills and libero Alex Greer had a career-high 33 digs, but Southeastern Louisiana could not overcome 30 attack errors at the net as it fell to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 25-23, 25-23, 26-24 Southland Conference match Friday at the University Center.

With the loss, Southeastern (8-16, 4-9 Southland) fell one match behind UTSA and Nicholls State for the No. 8 spot in the league standings with three matches left in the regular-season.

Southeastern will face UTSA (10-17, 5-8 Southland) in a crucial match on Saturday at 2 p.m. Prior to the match, Southeastern will honors seniors Katie Collins, Julie Elliott, Lauren Mayer, Margaret Pittman and Srajer in a pre-match ceremony.

Emma Ridley posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs for A&M-Corpus Christi (8-20, 1-12 Southland), which snapped a 15-match Southland Conference losing streak dating back to a win over Southeastern on Nov. 7, 2008. Jessica Korda added 12 kills for the Islanders while Victoria Sookiasian had a team-high 19 digs.

The Islanders hit .154 at the net in the opening set as Ridley had six kills and Korda four in 10 attempts. A&M-Corpus Christi trailed 19-18 before Korda posted a kill, Jessica Jennett recorded a service and a Lady Lion attack error gave the Islanders a 21-19 lead.

A&M-Corpus Christi built a 17-10 lead in the second set before Southeastern came back behind the serve of Alexis Braghini and Pittman. An ace by Pittman and two set errors by the Islanders' Courtney Wypiszynski cut the lead to 18-17 before kills by Courtney Donald and Taylor Buckner gave the Lady Lions the lead.

Bucker later added a kill that gave Southeastern a 22-20 advantage, but a service error and a kill by Ridley tied the contest at 22-22 and the Islanders would eventually close out the set after a Southeastern attack error and a kill by Ariel Carlson.

Srajer, who hit an impressive .323 for the match, had seven kills in 12 attempts in the final set. The Lady Lions had 12 errors and hit .063 in the final set while A&M-Corpus Christi hit .125 at the net with four miscues.

The Lady Lions built a 22-17 lead on a kill by Srajer, but the Islanders took advantage of four hitting errors by Southeastern down the stretch to claim the victory.

Arianne Cruckshank came off the bench to record 21 assists for Southeastern while Buckner added 18 digs. Collins had 16 assists for the Lady Lions while Elliott and Mayer had two blocks each.
