Lions To Host Millsaps College In Saturday Matinee

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Millsaps College at the University Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. The game, which is the first of a twinbill that will feature the Southeastern women's team facing Centenary at 3 p.m., can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (3-1) remained unbeaten at home in 2009-10 after posting a 77-73 decision over Jacksonville State on Tuesday. The Lions led by as many as 14 points in the contest as Patrick Sullivan scored a season-high 21 points to lead four players in double figures.

Trent Hutchin, Gary Dixon and Brandon Fortenberry each scored 11 points for Southeastern, which shot 54 percent in the game.

Sullivan, who also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots against JSU, leads Southeastern in scoring at 16.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds. Hutchin and Damon Forest are next in scoring for the Lions at 13.8 points with Fortenberry (8.3), Dixon (7.8) and Jason Marks (7.0) next.

Millsaps (1-2) returns to action after a 65-53 loss at the University of Dallas on Tuesday. The Majors opened the season with an 84-69 loss against Belhaven College on Nov. 17 before defeating Pensacola Christian, 71-59, on Nov. 20.

Blake Martinez, a Mandeville native, leads Millsaps in scoring at 15.3 points per game with Walker's Cameron Varnado next at 14.7 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds. Chris Ingle, who prepped at Archbishop Hannan, is the Majors' third player averaging in double figures at 13.0 points per game.
