FRISCO, Texas – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana University football team to its biggest fourth-quarter comeback in school history, running back
Jasper Ducksworth was selected as the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week in a release by the organization on Monday.
Ducksworth, from Mt. Olive, Miss., added a second weekly award when he was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Ducksworth, who earned SLC and LSWA honors for the first time in his career, set career-highs with 143 yards and three touchdowns in Southeastern's 51-50 overtime win at Texas State in the Southland Conference opener for both teams on Saturday. The win by Southeastern (3-2, 1-0 SLC), which came back from a 40-21 fourth-quarter deficit against Louisiana-Monroe to post a 50-47 victory in 1981, was the first-ever against Texas State in 13 games.
The 5-foot-7 senior helped Southeastern rally from a 44-20 deficit in the fourth quarter as he scored the game-tying touchdown on a 1-yard plunge with 34 seconds remaining in regulation before scoring the go-ahead score from 2 yards out on the Lions' first possession in overtime.
Ducksworth added an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for the Lions and had five receptions and two kick returns for the Lions, recording 201 all-purpose yards.
Defensive back
Michael Ducksworth (no relation), who posted 16 tackles in the contest, earned honorable mention notice on defense while defensive back
Stephen Moreaux, whose blocked punt in the fourth quarter set up a Southeastern touchdown, earned honorable mention notice on special teams.
Southeastern will return to action on Saturday at 6 p.m. when it plays host to Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State for Homecoming.
