HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University closes out a two-game homestand when it faces Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin in a Saturday matinee at the University Center.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The first meeting of the season between the SLC East Division rivals will also be televised on a tape-delayed basis on the Southeastern Channel (Charter Cable 18 in St. Tammany/Tangipahoa Parishes).
Southeastern (8-9, 2-2 SLC) turned in its best defensive effort of the season with a come-from-behind 52-49 victory over McNeese State on Wednesday. The Lions, who gave up their fewest points of the season, allowed two points in the final 11:09 and held the Cowboys to 31.6 percent from the floor.
The Lions rallied from a 10-point deficit to remain unbeaten at home in seven games this season and the last nine games overall. Hammond's
Chris Cyprian led Southeastern with 17 points and five assists while grabbing eight rebounds. Baton Rouge's
David Ndoumba, a former Christian Life Academy product, grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Lions while
DeShawn Patterson added nine points.
Patrick Sullivan, who was limited to three points against MSU, leads Southeastern in scoring (11.5), rebounds (7.2), blocked shots (40) and field goal percentage (.579).
Warrell Span of Patterson follows in scoring (10.8) and rebounds (7.0) with Cyprian (9.5),
Brandon Fortenberry (7.3),
Robert Tibbs (6.9) and
Damon Forest (4.9) next in the scoring column.
SFA (11-5, 3-1 SLC), which leads the SLC East by one game over Southeastern and Nicholls State, had its four-game win streak snapped on Wednesday with a 67-52 loss at UT Arlington. The Lumberjacks opened SLC play with wins over Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas and Nicholls State.
Shreveport native Josh Alexander leads SFA in scoring at 15.6 points per game followed by Matt Kingsley (14.6). Eddie Williams (9.8), Nick Shaw (5.7) and Girod Adams (5.5) are next in the scoring column for the Lumberjacks, who average 70.7 points per game while allowing 58.9.
