Southeastern fell to 2-2 overall despite another 400-plus yard offensive performance. Louisiana Tech used two Southeastern turnovers to break the game open with a 10-0 third quarter and improved to 2-1 in the victory. The two teams combined for 885 total yards in a wild game between the two former Gulf States Conference rivals who were meeting for the first time since 1985.
“I'm very proud of our team's effort tonight,” Southeastern head coach Mike Lucas commented. “We played with a lot of heart. Louisiana Tech is a team that is going to win a lot of games in the WAC. We had mental mistakes, especially in the special teams area, that cost us 14 points. We have to get those things cleaned up as we head closer to Southland Conference play. Overall, however, I am very pleased with how we fought against a quality FBS opponent.”
Southeastern junior quarterback Brian Babin set new single-game career highs for completions and attempts, hitting 32 of 59 passes for 322 yards. The 300-yard performance was the second in as many weeks for the St. Amant native, who threw for a career-high 330 yards versus South Dakota last Saturday.

However, the Lions, who had a plus-three turnover margin in the first half, committed the second half's first miscue. Babin hit Wilson on a quick slant, but Wilson was stripped by Antonio Baker and Tech recovered at midfield.
The Bulldogs drove the ball down to the Lion four-yard line and pushed the lead to eight with a 21-yard Brad Oestriecher field goal to put Louisiana Tech up, 31-23, with 6:12 left in the third quarter. On their next possession, the Bulldogs faced a third-and-11 at the Lions 44. Southeastern came on an all-out blitz, but Bennett found Porter on a screen pass and the junior running back cruised into the end zone untouched to put LTU back up, 14-10 with 36 seconds left in the first quarter.
