HAMMOND -
Freshman middle blocker Paige Dollison and sophomore outside hitter Kalynn Evans tied for the team lead with nine kills and junior middle blocker Julie Elliott came off the bench to hit .600 (6K, 0 E, 10 TA) as the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (2-3) picked up its first home win of the season with a 3-1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-18, 25-18) triumph over Louisiana-Monroe (0-10) on Tuesday night.

"It was good to pick up our first home win tonight," head coach Julie Langford said.  "We did a good job of taking control of and winning the momentum battle tonight.  I was pleased with the energy level our girls had tonight.  Now we will have to try to build on that as we get ready for this weekend."

Southeastern got off to a fast start, taking the first set by a score of 25-13.  Dollison connected on four kills and hit .667 (4 K, 0 E, 6 TA) in the first set to lead the offense and sophomore libero Alex Greer recorded four of her 12 digs to make sure the Lady Lions never trailed in the first set.  It was the first time this season that Southeastern took the first set of the match.

Unfortunately, for Southeastern, ULM rallied in the second set as 14 Lady Lion errors and a .260 Warhawk hitting percentage evened the score with a 25-18 decision for ULM.

"One of our goals was to really come out with a lot of intensity and take the first set," Langford said.  "It's a step-by-step process and now the next step is to come out and get a straight-set win.  We let up a little in the second and they played well, but we'll have to work some more on our hitting efficiency in practice to make sure we stay in control the whole way.  But I was pleased with how we came out and were able to really put away those final two sets."

Junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer tallied four kills in the third set and Elliott recorded five of her six kills in the decisive fourth set as the Lady Lions secured a 3-1 win.

Southeastern will return to action this Friday when they head to Mobile, Ala. for South Alabama's Jaguar Classic.  The Lady Lions will play Jackson State on Friday at 4 p.m. before taking on the Lady Jaguars at 11 a.m. on Saturday.  Live stats for both matches will be available on www.LionSports.net
