HATTIESBURG, Miss. –
Senior outside hitter Jessica Srajer tallied thirteen kills to lead the offense and sophomore libero Alex Greer led the defense with 14 digs, but the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team (0-2) could not finish a rally in a 3-0 loss (25-22, 25-22, 25-23) at Southern Miss (7-0) on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles, winners of their first six matches coming in, continued their hot streak by jumping out to a 5-2 lead early in the first set.  However, the Lady Lions battled back to within two to make it 14-12 after a kill by Srajer.

Southern Miss then pulled away, taking a seven point lead after a kill by Stevi Cherry made it 20-13.  The Lady Lions tried to rally once again, as Srajer tallied four more kills to bring Southeastern within two at 23-21.  An ace from junior setter Katie Collins made it 23-22, but the Lady Eagles pulled away for the final two points of the set.

Southeastern got behind early again in the second as Southern Miss jumped out to a 10-5 lead.  The Lady Lions got four more kills from Srajer and sophomore outside hitter Allison Jones in another comeback effort, and Southeastern staved off a pair of set points before ultimately falling 25-22 once again.

Trying to force a fourth set, the Lady Lions jumped out early in the third, after Collins' fifth kill made it 3-1.  Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles mounted a comeback of their own and the two squads began a back-and-forth affair.  Neither squad claimed a lead bigger than four points in the third. Meanwhile, a kill by senior middle blocker LaToya Anthony tied the score at 20-20.

After a pair of Lady Lion errors and two Southern Miss kills, the Lady Lions faced match point.  However, kills by Srajer and junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer and a Southern Miss serving error brought the Lady Lions to within one at 24-23.  Unfortunately, a kill by Southern Miss' Stevi Cherry ended the hopes for a Southeastern comeback and gave the Golden Eagles a straight-set win.

The Lady Lions will now prepare for a weekend roadtrip to Monroe, La. for the ULM Lady Warhawk Tournament.  Southeastern will face ULM on Friday night at 7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. match-up against Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday.  Live stats will be available on www.LionSports.net.
