HAMMOND - Senior middle blocker LaToya Anthony hit .625 (10-0-16) and junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer posted 15 kills as the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (6-7, 1-2 Southland Conference) hit .316 (44-14-95) as a team en route to a 3-0 win over Southern by scores of 25-14, 25-9 and 25-14 on Tuesday night.

"We had a lot of strong performances tonight," head coach Julie Langford said.  "Coming in, we really wanted to work on our passing and I think we did very well there.  Our blocking was very aggressive up front and we had a lot of solid hitting performances."

Southeastern jumped out to an early lead in the first set as Anthony hit .833 (5-0-6) and Mayer added five kills of her own as Southeastern took a 5-1 lead.

The Lady Jaguars battled back, however, as Southern rallied to pull to within two at 10-8.  Fortunately, for Southeastern the Lady Lions responded to go on a 14-6 run the rest of the way and claim a 25-14 set win and a 1-0 advantage after the first.

Southeastern continued its hot-hitting in the second set as junior middle blocker Julie Elliott (five kills), junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer (four kills) and junior right side hitter Jessica Srajer (three kills) combined to total 12 of the Lady Lions' 15 kills.  Southeastern hit .357 in the second set as the Lady Lions claimed a 25-9 win.

Mayer and Anthony struck again for the Lions in the third as the duo combined for ten kills on 19 attempts without a single error (.526 Pct.).  With the Lady Lion offense clicking, junior libero Margaret Pittman helped keep the Southern offense at bay, recording nine of her 14 digs in the third set as Southeastern took the final frame 25-14 for its first straight-set victory of 2008.

The non-conference win makes the Lady Lions winners of two of their last three matches as they head into a conference weekend at McNeese State on Friday and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.

First serve for Friday is set for 7 p.m. in Lake Charles, La. with Saturday's tilt with the Ladyjacks scheduled for 2 p.m.
