BOBCATS EFFICIENT IN 38-17 WIN OVER LIONS

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Redshirt freshman Bradley George threw for 236 yards and three touchdown passes and the Bobcats continued their mastery of Southeastern Louisiana with a 38-17 Southland Conference win before an announced crowd of 13,321 Saturday night at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium.

Daniel Jolly rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown while Cameron Luke caught a pair of touchdowns for Texas State (3-4, 2-1 SLC), erupted for 28 unanswered points and improved to 10-0 all-time against Southeastern (2-6, 1-2 SLC). Southeastern returns to action on Saturday when it faces Stephen F. Austin (1-6, 1-1 SLC) in the Lions- homecoming battle that will be regionally-televised on Fox Sports Net Houston.

"We're very disappointed in the outcome because we felt like going in, we had a chance to compete with them. We just weren't able to get done what we needed to accomplish," Southeastern assistant head coach Tony Hatmaker said. "Once we got in the red zone, we had a hard time putting it in the end zone. Everytime they got an opportunity in the red zone, they took advantage of it and that was the key of the game."

Southeastern, which reached the Texas State red zone twice in the first half and got a 25-yard field goal from Jeff Turner, missed a chance to score on its opening drive after Corlando McChristion picked off a George pass at the SLU 23 on the third play of the game. Bradd Schlosser's 25-yard pass to Merrick Lanaux to the Texas State 41 highlighted a drive that reached the Texas State 13, but Turner missed a 30-yard field goal attempt to the left.

Two drives later after forcing a pair of Texas State punts, Southeastern was on the move again getting to the Texas State 3 on a 25-yard pass from Schlosser to Jamarr' Garrett. Texas State's defense stiffened as a pair of runs by Jay Lucas moved the Lions to the Texas State 1, but Schlosser bobbled the snap on third-down and was sacked at the 8. Turner added a 25-yard field goal with 11:05 left to cap an 11-play drive and give Southeastern a 3-0 lead.

Texas State answered on its following drive as George capped a six-play, 68-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Morris Crosby with 8:01 left in the first half. George hit Chase Wasson on a 37-yard pass to the SLU 21 before the Bobcats scored four plays later to take the lead.

On the following possession, Southeastern drove 42 yards to the Texas State 27 before Nate Langford sacked Schlosser on fourth-and-6. The Bobcats would capitalize on a pair of Southeastern penalties to take a 14-3 lead with 1:33 left.

A holding penalty on Romaliz Mayo on third-and-9 kept the Texas State drive alive and after McChristion was flagged for interference at the SLU 28 four plays later. On the following play, George hit Luke down the left sideline for a 28-yard touchdown pass.

The Bobcats drove 84 yards in 10 plays on their opening drive of the second half and scored when Alvin Canady ran around the left side for a 1-yard score. George, the 24-year-old signal caller who spent five seasons in the Cincinnati Reds' organization, threw his third touchdown of the game when he hit Luke on a 29-yard pass down the right sideline on third-and-21 on the first play of the fourth quarter.

"Defensively, we anticipated most of the stuff that we saw from them," Hatmaker said. "They (Texas State) played a little more three-man fronts that we originally anticipated."

Southeastern finally scored its first touchdown of the game as Schlosser hit Garrett on a 64-yard touchdown strike with 14:27 left to cut the lead to 28-10. The Lions scored their second touchdown of the quarter when Seth Babin hit Krishna Muhammad on an 18-yard pass with 10 seconds left.

Andrew Ireland booted a 29-yard field goal and Daniel Jolly, who rushed for 100 yards on 12 carries, added a 2-yard touchdown run for the Bobcats to round out the scoring.

After controlling the football for nearly 18 minutes and outgaining Texas State, 215-193, in the first half, Southeastern held the ball for just 11 minutes in the final 30 minutes while the Bobcats picked up 212 of its 405 yards total offense.

Schlosser, a true freshman making his second career start, completed 25 of 32 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown. Garrett caught six passes for the Lions for 110 yards while Jay Lucas finished with 70 yards on the ground.
