Richard Thiberville, Jr. joined the Southeastern Louisiana University media relations team as the Associate Director of Sports Information in September of 2022. He serves as the main contact for the Men’s Basketball, Indoor Volleyball, Track & Field, & Cross Country teams. He also serves as the secondary contact for both the Football & Baseball teams.
Thiberville, a New Orleans native, joined the SLU staff from Louisiana Christian University where he served as the Sports Information Director, overseeing the school’s 11 sports. During his time in Pineville, he helped guide the program through immense change as the former Louisiana College switched from NCAA Division III to NAIA and the school changed its name.
Prior to his time at LC/LCU, Thiberville served as the first full-time Sports Information Director across the Red River at LSU Alexandria. At LSUA, he oversaw the school’s seven sports which gave him the opportunity to cover numerous national championship tournament appearances, including a softball team trip to the NAIA Softball World Series and two men’s basketball team runs to the NAIA Fab Four, including one national championship finals appearance. His work was instrumental as LSUA earned hosting duties during his time, including two NAIA Softball National Tournament Opening Rounds as well as Red River Athletic Conference Tournaments in softball and men’s & women’s basketball. His efforts earned him the RRAC Sports Information Director of the Year award following the 2017-18 academic year, an award voted on by his peers in the conference.
A 2007 graduate of Loyola University New Orleans with a degree in Social Sciences focusing on broadcast journalism, Thiberville got his first experience in a sports information office as a student worker with the Wolf Pack.
His professional career started in the local news industry, beginning as a desk assistant at WWL-TV in New Orleans, which is how he watched his beloved New Orleans Saints win the franchise’s first Super Bowl title. He later went on to produce the 10 PM news at both KLFY TV-10 in Lafayette and WBRZ News Channel 2 in Baton Rouge before making the jump back into the sports world. He served as a producer on “Ken Trahan’s Original Prep Football Report” which also gave him a chance to do play-by-play and sideline reporting for, and write on, high school sports for Trahan’s prep sports website.
Thiberville, a member of College Sports Communicators & the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association, is married to the former Brandi Quebedeaux with the couple expecting their first child. The pair currently reside in the city of Central.
