Austin Whaley was hired as a Sport Performance Coach at Southeastern Louisiana University in May of 2022. He is responsible for all facets of athletic development for men’s and women’s basketball and both indoor and beach volleyball. He also oversees the University Center weight room on campus.
Prior to SLU, Austin was a graduate assistant at St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH. During his time there he oversaw training for women’s tennis and a regionally ranked cross country team. In addition, he assisted with the basketball, football, lacrosse, and volleyball programs. While he worked at Saint Anselm, he received a master’s in exercise science with a
concentration in strength in conditioning from Merrimack College.
In the summer of 2021, Whaley was a strength and conditioning intern for the football and basketball programs at the University of Texas at San Antonio. One of his major responsibilities as an intern was to assist with the collection and analysis of GPS and bar velocity training data. Following that summer the UTSA football team went on to win Conference USA and send multiple players to the NFL.
Whaley played collegiate basketball while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA.
