Former Southeastern football letterwinner Trey Willie is in his third season as member of the Southeastern coaching staff. Willie coaches running backs at his alma mater.
In 2025, Willie led a Southeastern running back corps that finished third in the Southland in rushing. Leading the way was second team All-Southland Conference selection Deantre Jackson, who finished in the top 10 in the SLC with 10 total touchdowns and 586 rushing yards.
In Willie’s debut campaign In 2024, the Lion running backs were led by first team All-Southland Conference selection Antonio Martin Jr. Under Willie’s tutelage, Martin Jr. led the SLC with 1,228 yards – the second-highest single-season total in program history – and 11 touchdowns.
Willie returned to Hammond following an extensive high school coaching career. The Loranger, Louisiana native was most recently the head football coach at Ponchatoula High School. Prior to that he was the Green Wave’s offensive coordinator for five seasons, after serving as the PHS head softball coach from 2016-19.
Willie’s other coaching stops included Amite High School and Hammond High School. Willie also served as a graduate assistant at SLU in the spring of 2007.
A 2006 Southeastern graduate, Willie was a two-sport student-athlete for the Lions, playing baseball and football. Willie was SLU’s starting quarterback in
2005 in the program’s first season as a Southland Conference football-playing institution.
Willie is married to the former Jill Machleit, a former Southeastern softball student-athlete.
