Matt Bergeron is in first season as offensive coordinator on the Southeastern Louisiana University football coaching staff. The Mandeville, La. native also oversees the team’s quarterbacks.
Bergeron comes to Hammond after spending the 2018-25 seasons at UL Lafayette. Bergeron spent his last four seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns as the program’s running backs coach. In 2025, he mentored the duo of Bill Davis (763 yards, 6 touchdowns) and Zylan Perry (689-8 TD). In his first season working with the running backs, he mentored Chris Smith, who earned All-Sun Belt Conference accolades.
Bergeron started his tenure in Lafayette as a graduate assistant working with the team’s wide receivers. Under his direction, Jamarcus Bradley caught 10 touchdown passes in both 2018 and 2019, finishing with 100 catches and 1,514 yards over two seasons. He spent the 2020 and 2021 campaigns as an analyst working with the tight ends.
Bergeron got his start in coaching as a student assistant as his alma mater, Southern Miss, working with the Golden Eagles’ quarterbacks in 2015. He spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons at Arizona State, working as a quality control coach in 2016 and graduate assistant in his second season, working with the Sun Devil wide receivers during his time in Tempe.
As a student-athlete, Bergeron started his career as a quarterback at Lamar. He then transferred to Southern Miss for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He graduated from USM with a bachelor’s degree in sports coach education in 2016.
