Brett Dewhurst is in his first season on the Southeastern Louisiana football coaching staff as an assistant coach working with the team's defensive backs.
Dewhurst spent the past two seasons on the Texas Tech coaching staff as a defensive quality control assistant, primarily working with the Red Raiders’ defensive backs. During his two years on head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s staff, Dewhurst helped lead TTU to an appearance in the 2015 Texas Bowl.
Prior to his time in Lubbock, Dewhurst was a defensive quality control assistant on the University of Houston. He worked with the cornerbacks in 2013 and the linebackers in 2014. During his time with the Cougars, UH advanced to the 2014 BBVA Compass Bowl and the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl.
Dewhurst opened his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. During his lone season, he helped MSU to the 2012 Lone Star Conference championship.
Dewhurst played four seasons at Texas Tech as a defensive back. During his career, he played in 48 games. He played in the 2008 Gator Bowl, 2009 Cotton Bowl, 2010 Alamo Bowl and 2011 Ticket City Bowl, also playing a part in the Red Raiders’ 2008 Big XII South Division championship.
A 2011 graduate of Texas Tech, Dewhurst earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science. Dewhurst wed the former Ryanne Villareal in 2013.
