Veteran coach Alvin Slaughter is in his second season as a member of the Southeastern football coaching staff. He coaches the Lion wide receivers.
In his debut season, Slaughter coached a Southeastern wide receiver corps that was led by first team All-Southland selection Darius Lewis, who finished eighth in FCS with 6.8 catches per contest. Lewis was second in school history with 82 catches for 806 yards and five touchdowns.
Slaughter came to Hammond after spending the three previous seasons at Central Michigan. Under his tutelage, Kalil Pimpleton earned first team All-MAC honors, played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and signed with the NFL’s Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent. Pimpleton, Jacorey Sullivan and Dallas Dixon all earned all-conference accolades in 2021 under Slaughter.
Prior to his time at CMU, Slaughter was a member of the staff at Northwestern State from 2016-20 as wide receiver coach. While in Natchitoches, Slaughter mentored a receiver corps that included All-Americans Jazz Ferguson, Quan Shorts and Myles Ward, helping the Demons to set school records for passing yardage in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Ferguson earned Southland Confernece and Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year honors after catching 66 passes for 1,117 yards and 13 touchdowns, while also claiming an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine - the first for a Demon since 2015.
His coaching career included a stint at LSU, where he was an assistant wide receiver coach and special teams assistant from 2012-16.
Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Slaughter spent nine seasons at Monsignor Pace High School, the first four as offensive coordinator and the final five as head coach. During his tenure, he helped the Spartans to the 2003 Class 3A state championship.
Slaughter began his coaching career at his alma mater, Clarion University (Penn.), serving as wide receiver and tight end coach from 1999-2002. A 1999 graduate of Clarion, the Carol City, Florida native finished with 195 receptions for 2,860 yards and 23 touchdowns in his collegiate career, while also a standout for the school's track and field team and was named to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
