Albert Poree

New Orleans native Albert Poree joined the Southeastern football coaching staff as assistant coach in July 2020. Poree oversees the Lion running backs.

Poree oversaw a running back group that was a key contributor to the Lions winning the 2022 Southland Conference championship. Poree’s crew was highlighted by Carlos Washington Jr., who rushed for 715 yards and 15 touchdowns – tied for the third-highest single-season total in program history and the most ever by a Lion running back – on the way to being named second team All-Southland Conference.

In 2021, Poree’s group was led by Taron Jones. Jones earned a spot on both the All-Southland Conference and Southland All-Academic teams. Jones rushed for six touchdowns and was third on the team with 44 receptions.

Poree helped the SLU ball carriers contribute to a Southeastern offense that ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring offense, total offense, third down conversion percentage, fourth down conversion percentage and red zone offense in the 2020 season that was played in the spring of 2021. His charges succeeded on and off the field, as Marcus Cooper was an All-Southland Conference choice and Taron Jones represented SLU on the Southland All-Academic team.

Poree came to SLU after most recently serving as offensive coordinator at several New Orleans-area high schools. In 2019, Poree was the offensive coordinator and coached the team’s quarterbacks and receivers at Booker T. Washington High School.

Prior to his most recent stint, he spent the previous two seasons at McDonogh 35 High School. In 2018, he was the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, having served as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator the previous season. He also spent the 2016 campaign at De La Sale High School, where he was special teams co-coordinator, pass game coordinator and coached the team’s receivers.

Poree started his collegiate coaching career as the assistant wide receivers coach and offensive quality control coach at Dartmouth College in 2013. In 2014 and 2015, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach on the Mississippi State staff, helping the Bulldogs to appearances in the 2014 Orange Bowl and 2015 Belk Bowl. He also has intern stints with the NFL’s Houston Texas and Tennessee Titans to his credit.

Poree started his coaching career as the wide receivers coach at Edna Karr High School in 2004. He then spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Sarah T. Reed High School.

As a player, Poree prepped at St. Augustine High School and signed with Notre Dame out of high school. He finished his collegiate career as a defensive back at Georgia Tech.

Poree earned his bachelor’s degree in management from Georgia Tech in 2003. He later earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2008.

Poree and his wife, Myla are the parents of three children: Reese, Nola and Bowen.
