HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will face Southern Miss Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex to begin its three-match road stretch.
Southeastern (3-1) will take its sixth trek to Hattiesburg, Miss. to continue its non conference slate against Southern Miss (1-2). Thursday's match against the Golden Eagles will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats, provided by the host, can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
The Lions will seek to further their momentum on the road in the opening of the 2026 season with a three-match winning streak. Southeastern gained a 1-0 victory over Troy before claiming a 3-0 win against Spring Hill College to close out week two of the season at home. SLU's home stretch last week recorded its first win over the Trojans since 2010 and its first time posting three straight non conference wins since 2014 after defeating the Badgers.
With a hot start, two Lions earned Southland Conference weekly honors as Lainey Connell earned SLC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week and Alexandra Knight was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week (Aug. 18). Being the first time since 2016 that a Lion has represented the green and gold for two consecutive weeks for the awards.
Southern Miss closed out the previous week 0-2 on the road against conference foe McNeese and Mississippi State. The Golden Eagles will look to recover, suffering from two-straight shutouts after their season opening 4-0 victory over Alabama State at home. Southern Miss is led by redshirt junior Ava Bynes with two goals so far this season alongside Shaelynn Quick and Ameera Edwards each with one goal.
Concluding Thursday's match, Southeastern will remain on the road traveling to Baton Rouge, La. to face the Southern Jaguars Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The Lions will close out their road-stretch against South Alabama Sunday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. The match against South Alabama will be streamed on ESPN+.
