Lions Secure Second Straight Shutout Victory

Southeastern secures third consecutive victory with a 3-0 win over Spring Hill College to close week two of the 2026 season

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team claimed its second straight shutout victory with a 3-0 win over Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.

SLU (3-1) posted its third consecutive non conference win, closing out week two of the 2026 season 2-0 at home. Southeastern secured the victory over Spring Hill College with a push of momentum fueled by Madison Vogler, and Brooke Opferman with her first multi-goal match. Goalkeepers Kendall Curran and Megan Kingman split time in the net for the Lions to record the shutout.

The Lions came out to a slow start the majority of the first half, unable to string together quality possessions on their home field. SLU worked to stretch the Badgers' defense with 17 shots and nine corner kicks in the half, but could not take advantage with missed opportunities. Spring Hill College battled to disrupt multiple passes as the green and gold fought to remain on the attack.

As Southeastern toiled to gain an edge, Vogler stepped up to answer the call in the 34th minute of the match to put the hosts on the board, 1-0. The freshman connected on her first goal this season to help the Lions break free with a spark of momentum before the half.

The green and gold returned from the halftime break unable to connect around the net, but maintained their intensity defensively to limit opportunities for Spring Hill College. Southeastern pushed to gain another break to extend its lead with 16 shots and two corner kicks. Opferman posted her first goal of the season after a hydration break late in the second half. The senior connected from a corner kick opportunity in the 79th minute of the match to put SLU up 2-0.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native struck again, two minutes later, to solidify the victory for the Lions on their home field. Opferman gained a smooth assist from junior Charlotte Lewis to quickly launch a goal past the Badger's goalkeeper Greenley Duplantis in the 81st minute of the contest, 3-0. SLU forced a busy afternoon in the net for Spring Hill as goalkeepers Ava Bell and Duplantis, who finished with 13 saves combined to close out the match.

The Lions closed out the contest with a match high 33 shots, 16 shots on goal and 11 corner kicks this season. As the green and gold's defense held strong, not allowing a single shot on goal the entire match.

Southeastern will make its second road trip of the season, traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss to face Southern Miss Thursday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. Thursday's match against the Golden Eagles will be streamed on ESPN+.
