HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University Alexandra Knight was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday morning, in an announcement by the conference office.
Knight is the first of the Lions this season to be selected in the weekly honors as the award is the first of the sophomore's career.
The Shreveport, La. native helped Southeastern produce a fuel of momentum to secure a 5-1 victory over in-state foe Louisiana Tech on the road Sunday evening. Knight posted three goals in the commanding win against the Bulldogs, the first multi-goal match of her career with the green and gold. Knight became the first Lion since Christina Cutura versus conference rival Nicholls in 2018 to record a hat trick.
Knight aided SLU with a steady source of energy throughout the contest, claiming the first goal in the 28th minute of the match off a beautifully timed assist by senior Kaitlyn Tung. The forward struck again in the 47th minute to extend Southeastern's lead before delivering her last goal in the 59th minute. Knight closed out the match with five shots and four shots on goal in 61 minutes of action.
The Lions will seek to keep their momentum going as they will return to home to face Troy Thursday at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Thursday's match will be streamed on ESPN+.
