HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University baseball coach
Bobby Barbier and outfielder
Peyton Woods earned superlative awards Wednesday as the Southland Conference announced its 2026 All-Conference teams and postseason honors.
Five Lion players earned All-Southland honors and another two earned All-Defensive squad, both totals tied with UTRGV for the most in the conference.
Woods and third baseman
Alex Perry earned first-team honors. Second baseman
Ben Robichaux, starting pitcher
Nik Toups and starting pitcher
Blake Lobell were named to the second team. At the same time, Perry joined first baseman
Brody Capps in earning All-Defensive honors.
Barbier was named the conference's Clay Gould Coach of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. The native of Marrero, Louisiana guided the Lions to a 19-9 mark in league action in 2026, a regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Southland Tournament. It also marks the third time in his career that Barbier has earned the honor.
With back-to-back regular-season titles, the Lions have proven to be remarkably consistent over the past few campaigns. Dating back to Barbier's first season at the helm, SLU has won 23 of its last 27 three-game series.
In addition to garnering first-team honors, Woods was named the league's Hitter of the Year. The junior from Albany, Louisiana leads the Southland with a .460 on-base percentage while ranking third in batting average (.352) and seventh in OPS (.981). He has scored 35 runs and driven in another 22, while picking up nine doubles and five home runs. Woods heads into the conference tournament having hit safely in 28 of his last 32 games.
Perry earned both first-team and All-Defensive honors. The redshirt senior from McComb, Mississippi ranks second in home runs (15), third in slugging percentage (.584), fourth in runs scored (50), eighth in OPS (.963) and ninth with 47 RBIs.
Robichaux has provided power at the plate and showcased an ability to get on base, leading to a Southland-high 53 runs scored. The senior from Plaquemine, Louisiana has blasted 11 home runs, picking up 37 RBIs. He's drawn 30 walks, which ranks 10
th in the conference, and 10 HBPs. Among the best in the conference, his slash line includes a .294 batting average, .520 slugging percentage and a .418 on-base percentage.
Arguably the Lions' best pitcher over the final 30 games of the regular season, Toups finished the season leading the staff with 57 strikeouts, a total that ranks 10
th in the conference, while compiling a 5-1 record and 4.18 ERA. The win total ranks seventh in the Southland. Over the final 30 games, however, the sophomore from Lake Charles, Louisiana went 5-0 with a 2.25 ERA, striking out 39 batters in 36.0 innings pitched and holding opponents to a .203 batting average.
Lobell earned All-Conference honors for the second time in his Lion career. The senior from Holden, Louisiana wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 record and a 4.88 ERA. Among qualified pitchers, Lobell ranks sixth in innings pitched (62.2), seventh in ERA and eighth in opponent batting average (.277).
In addition to providing power at the plate and ranking second in the Southland with 49 RBIs, Capps has proven to be a slick-fielding first baseman. The senior from Phenix City, Alabama leads the conference in chances (474) and putouts (444), having committed just three errors for a .994 fielding percentage. Capps has also been party to 37 double plays, a total that ranks third in the conference.
