HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team continued its hot streak with a 9-0 run-rule victory over Jackson State Tuesday evening at North Oak Park.
Southeastern (23-9) extended its winning streak to nine games with the last six all coming by mercy rule. The Lady Lions dropped JSU to 11-12 overall with the victory.
SLU collected 13 hits, marking the ninth straight game in which Southeastern has finished with double-digit hits. The first four hitters in the Lady Lion lineup –
Shelby Morris,
Chloe Magee,
Maria Detillier and
Cydnee Schneider – collected two hits apiece, as SLU finished with seven extra-base hits.
Hallie Burns (8-3),
Celia Lamkin and
Tyler Oubre combined to hold JSU to one hit on the way to the team's 11
th shutout victory of 2026.
Burns and JSU starter Jorgina Gant (4-3) matched zeroes until Southeastern broke through in the bottom of the second inning.
Kailey Dixon tripled home the game's first run, then scored on an RBI single by
Colleen Kulivan to give SLU a 2-0 advantage. Doubles by Magee and Schneider pushed the Lady Lion lead to 3-0 after three innings.
Southeastern broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. An RBI triple by
Shenita Tucker scored the inning's first run, then Morris followed with an RBI single.
One batter later, Detillier hit a two-run double off the centerfield fence. An RBI double by Schneider, followed by a run-scoring triple by Watson capped the scoring and gave SLU a commanding 9-0 advantage.
Oubre threw a perfect fifth to close out the victory.
Next up, Southeastern will welcome Northwestern State to town for the Cypress Trophy series. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday on Youth Sports Night, while the series wraps Saturday at noon. All three games will be televised on ESPN+.
