HAMMOND, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team extended its win streak to seven games with a pair of run-rule victories over HCU in a Southland Conference doubleheader Friday evening at North Oak Park.
Southeastern improved to 21-9 overall and 5-0 in Southland Conference play with the two victories. HCU fell to 4-21 overall and 1-4 in league action.
In the opener, SLU rolled to an 8-0 win in six innings over the Huskies.
Ka'Lyn Watson led the Lady Lions with three hits, while
Shelby Morris,
Maria Detillier and
Cydnee Schneider added two hits apiece.
Macie LaRue (3-2) and
Bre Clark combined to hold the Huskies to one hit in the opener.
Detillier hit for the cycle in the nightcap, as Southeastern posted a season-high for hits and runs in a 19-0 victory in five innings. Morris and Watson added three hits each, while
Chloe Magee,
Brilee Ford and
Shenita Tucker contributed two hits apiece to SLU's 19-hit attack.
Katherine Thiessen (2-1) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, allowing one hit and striking out four in her first complete-game effort of her SLU career.
Southeastern will look to complete the series sweep Saturday at noon. Saturday's series finale will be televised on ESPN+.
Game One – Southeastern 8, HCU 0 (6 Innings)
After LaRue and Leah Hammack (1-4) matched zeroes for the first two innings, SLU broke through in the bottom of the third. Detillier hit the first pitch of the inning off the left field foul pole, two straight HCU errors led to two more runs, then an RBI single by
Colleen Kulivan staked the Lady Lions to a 4-0 lead.
Schneider added a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring later in the frame on a wild pitch to stretch the Southeastern advantage to 7-0.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, a Watson RBI double scored
Katie Lott and enforced the mercy rule victory for SLU.
Game Two – Southeastern 19, HCU 0 (5 Innings)
Detillier gave SLU the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run triple. Two-run singles by Ford and Tucker keyed a six-run opening frame against HCU starter Abby Prasifka (0-7).
Detillier started off the scoring in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run off the video board in right centerfield. Watson followed later in the frame with an RBI triple, later scoring on a wild pitch to give SLU a 10-0 cushion.
The Lady Lions sent 12 to the plate in an eight-run bottom of the third inning. Morris tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Magee. Watson doubled home two more runs, then Kulivan hit a three-run triple. An RBI single by Tucker and an RBI double by Morris added to the tally, as SLU led, 18-0, after three innings.
Detillier, who tripled in the first, homered in the second and singled in the third, completed the cycle with a leadoff double in the fourth. Later in the frame, she'd score on a Watson RBI single to provide the game's final run.
Thiessen carried a no-hitter into the final frame and retired the first two batters of the top of the fifth inning. However, Cara Pitman broke up the no-hit bid with an infield single. Thiessen recovered to strike out Jocelyn Briseno to close out the 10
th shutout victory of 2026 for Lady Lion pitching.
