HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 9-7, Tuesday to South Alabama in a non-conference contest with multiple lead changes at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Southeastern (2-6) wiped out an early 3-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the second inning off South Alabama (6-2) starting pitcher Hayden O'Dell.
Third baseman
Alex Perry drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on
Justin Williams' single through the left side of the infield.
Connor Cuff drove in Perry with a single past the shortstop.
Mo Little followed with an RBI single to left, plating Williams from second.
Blaise Priester tied up the game with an RBI double to right-center field.
Little scored the go-ahead run on
Giovanni Licciardi's groundout to first base.
The Jaguars went back ahead with a four-run fourth, taking a 7-4 lead, but Perry's two-run double in the bottom of the inning pulled Southeastern back within a run.
SLU manufactured a run in the sixth to tie the game.
Dane Watts led off with an infield single, advancing to second on a throwing error by the Jaguar shortstop. Watts moved to third on a deep flyout to center field and then scored on Perry's groundout to first.
A pair of runs in the seventh put South Alabama back on top for good.
Left-handed reliever Bray Goode (1-0) picked up the win for the Jaguars, allowing one unearned run in 2.2 innings of work. He struck out a pair of batters and did not issue a walk. Brian Garmon earned his first save of the season, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to close it out.
Triston Todorowski (0-1), the third of seven Lion pitchers in the game, suffered the loss.
Willims (2-for-5) and
Ben Robichaux (2-for-4) contributed multiple hits to the SLU offensive effort.
UP NEXT
Southeastern embarks on a five-game road trip to north Louisiana, stopping in Natchitoches for a three-game Southland Conference series at Northwestern State this coming weekend. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Lions wrap up the trip with a pair of non-conference games against ULM in Monroe. Start times are slated for 6 p.m. on March 3 and 4 p.m. on March 4 at Lou St. Amant Field.
