Southeastern Prepares for Two-Game Road Trip

SLU will look to extend its two-game win streak this week

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will start its two-game road slate by visiting East Texas A&M, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., in Commerce, Texas, and end the trip against Northwestern State, Saturday, at 1 p.m., in Natchitoches, La.

SLU (4-18, 3-12 in SLC) will play games against East Texas A&M (11-10, 7-7) and Northwestern State (11-11, 8-6) will be televised on ESPN+. The game against East Texas A&M can also be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion, online at either www.LionSports.net/listenlive or www.LionUpRadio.org, via the following apps – Lions Gameday Experience, Live365, iHeart, Audacy, TuneIn and MyTuner Radio - or on Alexa speakers (skill must be enabled first). All you have to say is, "Alexa, play K.S.L.U."

The Lady Lions are coming off back-to-back wins, defeating UIW in the University Center, 74-64, Thursday, before defending home court against HCU, 68-61, Saturday. SLU is looking to continue its win streak as the regular season enters its final month.

Aliyah Collins and Lihi Azouri remain Southeastern's double-digit scorers through 22 games, notching 13.2 and 11.1 points per game, respectively. The former scored 14 points in the win over her former team in UIW, before posting a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds against HCU. Freshman Mia Ramos led SLU with 28 points in the team's two home wins last weekend, earning 14 points in each contest and totaling six three-pointers.

Bethany Graves has emerged as a focus on the defensive end of the floor. The Pascagoula, Miss. native averages 4.9 rebounds per game and tallied a game-high 11 rebounds in the win over the Cardinals Thursday, contributing to SLU winning the rebounding battle in both home wins. Natalie Huff took the team-leading mark in season steals with 37 after swiping five steals over the weekend. The redshirt freshman also dished eight assists against HCU.

Standing at No. 7 in the Southland Conference, East Texas A&M is on a four-game winning streak. Tiani Ellison and Reza Po are tied for the team-lead in points per game at 14.3. The duo is ranked third and fourth, respectively, among all Southland Conference players at the 14.3 points-per-game mark. Po has been on a scoring run as of late, earning an SLC Player of the Week nod after averaging 28.5 points per game in the team's wins over New Orleans and Nicholls to end January. Ellison is also the team's rebounding leader at 6.4 boards per game.

Last week, the Lions got a 65-64 win over SFA in Nacogdoches, Texas, before defeating Northwestern State in Commerce, 61-52, Saturday. East Texas A&M is looking to tie the season series with SLU, having lost to the Lady Lions in Hammond, 76-71, on Nov. 22.

Ranking fifth in the Southland, Northwestern State is seeking consistency as the regular season winds down. The Lady Demons have lost the last two contests, falling to Lamar, and East Texas A&M, Thursday and Saturday. NSU is one of the more talented teams in the SLC. Vernell Atamah has been one of the best players in the Southland Conference this season, averaging a conference-leading 18 points per game.

The Lady Demons are ranked third in the conference defensively, too, allowing an average of 61.8 points per game. NSU is also third in the SLC with 38.1 rebounds per game. Carla Celaya (7.5) and Clarence Djuela (6.6) have been at the forefront of the team's rebounding efforts, ranking second and fifth among all Southland student-athletes in boards per game.

Southeastern remains undefeated in the all-time series against East Texas A&M, winning all of the eight matchups between the two teams. Northwestern State leads the all-time series against SLU, 31-23, winning the previous matchup, 69-52, in the University Center on Dec. 7.
