HAMMOND, La. – The No. 25 Southeastern Louisiana University football team will close out a three-game road swing Saturday, traveling to UTRGV for a 7 p.m. contest at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium.

The first-ever trip to Edinburg, Texas for SLU (3-2, 1-1 SLC) will see the Lions take on a UTRGV squad that has not lost at home since starting the program in 2025. Saturday's contest will be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).

Coming off its bye week, Southeastern enters Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak. SLU rolled to a 52-21 victory at Northwestern State Sept. 26 in its last game action.

Chad Elzy Jr. was named the Southland Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 101 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the Demons, as he and Deantre Jackson (104 yards) became the first Lion teammates since 2017 to both top 100 yards rushing in the same game.

Kyle Lowe leads the Southeastern offense, having thrown for 883 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions on 76-for-125 passing through five games. Dkhai Joseph (21 catches, 248 yards, 2 TD), Tristan Goodly (13-99-1 TD) and Lonnie Shinn Jr. (13-172-4 TD) have been Lowe's top targets with Shinn sharing the Southland lead for receiving touchdowns.

Elzy (225 yards, 3 TD), Jackson (219), Calvin Smith Jr. (138-4 TD), Kyree Paul (127-1 TD) and Lowe (105-1 TD) have all been effective members of a balanced SLU ground attack.

Kenneth Ford Jr. led SLU in the Sept. 26 win at NSU with 12 tackles, while Carter Byrd added an interception and a forced fumble. Trace Carter and Conner Nelson each recovered fumbles, as the Lions finished with a plus-three turnover margin versus the Demons.

Carter Hanberry leads SLU with 43 tackles, followed by Carter (37), Jordan Okoye (33), Byrd (31) and Ford (30). Amiree Alexander has a pair of sacks, while Byrd, Carter, Richard McKneely, CJ Fraser and Zay Franks all have interceptions.

SLU features two of the nation's best on special teams. Joseph is second in FCS with two punt return touchdowns, while ranking fourth nationally with 22.2 yards per punt return. Punter Jack Hunter's SLC-best 45.2 punting average is good for eighth in FCS.

Both of the losses versus FCS teams for UTRGV (2-3, 1-2 SLC) came on the road and were by three points. Ozio Rigby's 51-yard field goal as time expired allowed East Texas A&M to outlast the Vaqueros, 20-17, last Saturday.

Aidan Jakobsohn (738 yards, 6 TD, 4 INT) has taken over as the UTRGV quarterback with Kyran Lee (26 catches, 410 yards, 4 TD) serving as the team's leading receiver. Brennan Carroll (261 yards, 1 TD) and TJ Dement (247 yards, 1 TD) provide an effective 1-2 punch on the ground for the Vaqueros.

Rich Spencer (51 tackles), Jaiden Haygood (5.5 tackles for loss) and Marcus Heard Jr. (2 INT) are the leaders on defense for UTRGV.

Following Saturday's contest, Southeastern will return home to host No. 10/11 Lamar for Homecoming next Saturday at 4 p.m. Saturday's game versus the Cardinals, sponsored by North Oaks Health, will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM). The annual Homecoming parade is scheduled for noon.
