HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team will face Houston Christian and UTRGV in week four of Southland Conference play.
Southeastern (5-6-1, 1-3 SLC) will close out its two-match road stretch against Houston Christian (6-3-3, 2-0-1 SLC) Thursday at 5 p.m. at Sorrels Field before returning to Hammomd, America to host UTRGV (4-6-1, 0-2-1 SLC) Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found on the women's soccer schedule page at www.LionSports.net. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and join the Lions to raise awareness for breast cancer with its Pink Out match against UTRGV.
The Lions will look to bounce back after suffering their third consecutive loss in league action. Southeastern fell 1-0 last week on the road against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, its third shutout of the season. The green and gold are led by sophomore Alexandra Knight in scoring with seven goals this season, followed by senior Brooke Opferman with four goals while Charlotte Lewis leads with three assists.
SLU has recorded 19 goals with 75 shots on goal and 159 shots this season. Senior goalkeeper Kendall Curran has handled the majority of the responsibility in the net for the Lions with 40 saves, playing 1,015 minutes so far this season.
Houston Christian closed out last week with a 2-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin at home. The Huskies extended their two-match winning streak, holding the Lumberjacks scoreless throughout the contest. Houston Christian gained a 21-4 shot advantage in its win over Stephen F. Austin as Jasmine Diaz and Isabella Alamo found the back of the net.
The Huskies are led by Isabella Dillow and Paisley Barela in scoring, each with five goals this season. Madison Stormberg follows with three goals while Dillow also leads with four assists. Senior Emmy McKeon protects the net for Houston Christian with 39 saves and 1.29 goals against average.
UTRGV will seek to regain momentum on the road after its bye week, suffering a 4-1 loss against Houston Christian the following week. The Vaqueros fell early against the Huskies surge of first half momentum though Anuhea Aalona found the back of the net to avoid the shutout.
Junior Isabella Burtini leads UTRGV in scoring so far this season with five goals, followed by Amy Romero, Anuhea Aalona and Natalie Singleton with two goals apiece. Burtini also leads the Vaqueros with three assists as Mariana Amezcua protects the net with 34 saves and a 1.34 goals against average.
Concluding Sunday's match, SLU will return on the road to face Stephen F. Austin Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. The Lions match against Stephen F. Austin will be streamed on ESPN+.
