FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University Volleyball team was recognized by the Southland Conference Monday, when Kyra McKelvey was tabbed the SLC Offensive Player of the Week.
 
McKelvey's Offensive Player of the Week honor is the first weekly award for SLU this season. The senior has now earned four Southland weekly awards in her career, securing her previous two accolades during the 2025 season.
 
The Navarre, Fla. native put together back-to-back 18-kill performances to lead the Lions in both of their conference victories last week. In Thursday's win at Northwestern State, McKelvey notched 21 points, seven digs and four blocks in addition to her 18 kills. On Saturday, the opposite hitter ended the win over East Texas A&M with 18 kills, a trio of blocks, and a .533 hitting percentage.
 
The 2025 SLC Player of the Year has maintained her place among the top student-athletes in the league. The senior ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.38) and fifth in points per set (3.72). The Lions have won their last three contests, beginning with a 23-kill performance by McKelvey in SLU's win at Lamar.
 
After its seven-match road swing, Southeastern (6-11, 3-1 SLC) will return to the University Center for a two-match homestand. On Thursday, Oct. 8, SLU will host McNeese (5-10, 1-3 SLC) at 6:30 p.m. Then, Nicholls (8-9, 1-3 SLC) will visit the Lions on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 12 p.m. SLU's matches this week will be televised on ESPN+.
 
The Lions' match against McNeese will be Pink Out night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink at the game to help support breast cancer awareness. Saturday's match against Nicholls will be Alumni Day. Southeastern is inviting its fans to the match, where it will welcome back its former Lions to the University Center.
