Brown Tabbed for First Career SLC Weekly Award

Gracie Brown has put together the best performances of her career during SLU's five-match win streak

FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University Volleyball team was honored for the second consecutive week Monday, when Gracie Brown was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
 
This week's SLC award is Brown's first-ever conference weekly award and the second for SLU this season. Southeastern has now won the SLC's Offensive Player of the Week accolade in back-to-back weeks, with Kyra McKelvey receiving the honor on Monday, Oct. 5.
 
During SLU's five-match winning streak, Brown has compiled some of the best performances of her collegiate career. The sophomore continued her run of great play last weekend in SLU's back-to-back home victories. Last week, Brown tallied 22 kills, 13 blocks, 38 points, eight aces, and seven digs. Brown has helped the Lions become one of the top defenses in the SLC, with the team averaging a league-leading 2.22 blocks per set.
 
In the team's win over McNeese, the Bryant, Ark. native notched a career-high 13 kills and a match-high seven blocks. In the victory against Nicholls, the sophomore ended the three-set match with match-best marks of nine kills, six service aces, and six blocks, also posting a career-best .643 hitting percentage. After serving eight aces over the week, Brown has elevated herself to be tied for the fifth-most aces (18) in the Southland.
 
Brown and the Lions (8-11, 5-1 SLC) are set for a split schedule, starting with a trip to San Antonio, Texas, to take on UIW (2-16, 0-6 SLC) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Then, SLU will return to the University Center to host HCU (2-16, 0-6 SLC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be televised on ESPN+.
