FRISCO, Texas – The reigning, back-to-back Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team picked up its second Southland Conference weekly honor in as many weeks with India Bennett being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the SLC announced on Monday.
 
Bennett, a redshirt senior from Prairieville, La., was at least a part of 21 blocks during the eight sets Southeastern played this weekend at the Central Arkansas Invitational where the Lady Lions picked up a pair of 3-1 wins over Little Rock and Central Arkansas. That's a whopping 2.63 blocks per set average.
 
In Friday's win over the Trojans, she blocked back nine attacks, three solo, while also getting 11 kills on a .409 attack percentage, scoring a career high 17 points.
 
She followed that up on Saturday with 12 blocks, two solo, with nine kills against the Sugar Bears to end that contest with 16 points while also getting a pair of assists.
 
The award is Bennett's first SLC weekly honor of her career. SLU starts the season earning Southland weekly honors for the first two weeks after Kyra McKelvey was named the SLC's Offensive Player of the Week last Monday. McKelvey was named an honorable mention to this week's Offensive Player of the Week award as well.
 
Bennett, McKelvey, and the rest of the Lady Lions (5-0) now head to Mobile, Ala. to take part in the Jaguar Invitational, hosted by the University of South Alabama, which is their first opponent in the event on Thursday. Opening serve of Thursday's match against the Jaguars (1-3) is set for 6 p.m. in Jaguar Gym and will be televised on ESPN+ with live stats also available through the host institution. SLU wraps up the Jaguar Invitational on Friday against Tulane.
