HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will return to action Saturday, traveling to Murray State for a 6 p.m. contest at Roy Stewart Stadium.
SLU (0-1) and the host Racers (0-1) will both be looking to bounce back from season-opening defeats this past Saturday. Southeastern dropped a 24-0 decision at FBS foe Louisiana Tech, while Murray State fell at East Tennessee State, 45-17.
In Saturday's loss to Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs made a field goal on the final play of the first half to break a scoreless tie, but scored 21 points in the third quarter to break the game open.
SLU finished with 271 total yards in last Saturday's loss and accumulated 18 first downs. However, three turnovers in Louisiana Tech territory were too much for Southeastern to overcome against the hosts.
Carson Camp (11-for-22, 122 yards, 1 INT) and
Kyle Lowe (4-for-9, 23 yards, 1 INT) split time under center for the Lions.
Jaedon Henry led SLU with 31 rushing yards, while
Luke Besh was the team's leading receiver with three catches for 59 yards.
The Lion defense limited Louisiana Tech to 262 total yards and 14 first downs last Saturday.
KK Reno finished with a team-high 10 tackles, followed by
Ian Conerly-Goodly with nine stops.
Rowan Briggs,
Ahmad Bradley and
Joshua Randall shared team-high honors with 1.5 tackles for loss, as each were credited with sacks.
Kentrell Prejean and
Brandon Hayes handled return duties in the opener, while
Alec Mahler averaged 43.3 yards per punt to lead the SLU special teams.
In its loss in last Saturday's season opener, Murray State cut a 24-3 halftime deficit to 24-17 midway through the third quarter, before ETSU pulled away for a 45-17 triumph.
The Racers finished with 260 total yards. Jim Ogle completed 22-of-35 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, as Darius Cannon served as Ogle's top target, finishing with 11 catches for 86 yards. Jawaun Northington led Murray State on the ground with 33 yards and a score on 12 carries.
The MSU defense yielded 572 total yards, including 392 on the ground. Dylan Rowsey led the Racers with 18 tackles. Ja'Quan Redfern was credited with a sack and a forced fumble, while Brooks Esplin intercepted a pass.
Following Saturday's contest, Southeastern will return home to open its 2025 home schedule, welcoming Mississippi Valley State for a 6 p.m. contest next Saturday in Strawberry Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7/WFPR 1400 AM).
Next Saturday will also be the annual Hall of Fame game, at the 2025 SLU Athletics Hall of Fame class of Mack Boatner, Courtney Donald Sweeney, Cqulin Hubert, Ed Nodhturft, Hope Sabadash and Sarah Williams will be recognized at halftime. The 2025 Hall of Fame class will be inducted the night before at the North Oaks Health System Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet at the Student Union Ballroom, where the 2024-25 SLU Athletes of the Year and the 1975 Southeastern baseball team that advanced to the College World Series will also be honored.
