BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The two-time reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team continued its daunting road trip with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 loss to tournament host and No. 14 Texas A&M on the opening night of the Texas A&M Invitational Thursday in Reed Arena.
Playing its sixth consecutive match away from home and second in a row versus an SEC opponent, SLU (5-4) dropped its fourth straight contest. The Aggies improved to 6-2 overall with the victory in their home opener.
The trio of
Alexis Logarbo,
Kyra McKelvey and
India Bennett led Southeastern with five kills apiece. Logarbo was the most efficient Lion on the attack, finishing with a .333 hitting percentage in Thursday's outing.
Ashley Richardson handled the majority of the setting duties for the Lady Lions, finishing with 17 assists to pace the team. McKelvey was credited with the team's lone service ace.
Bennett, the Southland Conference blocks leader, finished with a team-high three blocks versus the Aggies.
Lexi Gonzalez led SLU with 10 digs.
Texas A&M hit an impressive .315 for the match, as Logan Lednicky lead a balanced attack with 11 kills. Maddie Waak (38 assists), Ava Underwood (15 digs) and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla (nine blocks) were the other leaders for the Aggies in the sweep.
