Southeastern Welcomes MVSU for Home Opener, Hall of Fame Game

SLU opens home slate Saturday at 6 p.m. with game sponsored by North Oaks Health System

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will open its 2025 home schedule Saturday, welcoming Mississippi Valley State for a 6 p.m. contest in Strawberry Stadium.
 
The game, sponsored by North Oaks Health System between the Lions (1-1) and the visiting Delta Devils (0-2) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7/WFPR 1400 AM).
 
Next Saturday will also be the annual Hall of Fame game, at the 2025 SLU Athletics Hall of Fame class of Mack Boatner, Courtney Donald Sweeney, Cqulin Hubert, Ed Nodhturft, Hope Sabadash and Sarah Williams will be recognized at halftime.
 
The 2025 Hall of Fame class will be inducted at Friday's North Oaks Health System Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet at the Student Union Ballroom, where the 2024-25 SLU Athletes of the Year and the 1975 Southeastern baseball team that advanced to the College World Series will also be honored.
 
Southeastern evened its record with a 45-24 road victory last Saturday at Murray State. The Lions rolled to 480 total yards on offense, while the SLU defense forced three turnovers in the win over the Racers.
 
The Lions are averaging 22.5 points and 371.5 yards per contest through the season's first two games. Carson Camp (29-for-47, 295 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT) and Kyle Lowe (10-for-17, 68 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT) have shared time under center for SLU.
 
Lowe also leads the team with 126 yards rushing and three touchdowns, followed by Jaedon Henry (109 yards). A total of 11 Lions have caught at least one pass through two games with Cade Collier and Jaylon Domingeaux sharing team-high honors with six catches apiece.
 
The Southeastern defense is yielding 24.0 points and 321.0 yards per game in the first two contests of the year. KK Reno leads SLU wiht 18 tackles, followed by Ian Conerly-Goodly (11), Carter Hanberry (nine), Blayne Delahoussaye (eight) and Khamron Ford (eight).
 
Ford and Shakespeare Louis have each intercepted passes, while Khalid Moore returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown in the win at Murray State.
 
Alec Mahler is averaging 42.7 yards per punt for SLU, while kicker Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez is 1-for-2 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra-point tries. Kentrell Prejean (19.3 yards per punt return) and Brandon Hayes (20.3 yards per kickoff return) have been effective in the return game.
 
Mississippi Valley State heads to Hammond looking for its first victory under first-year head coach and longtime NFL veteran cornerback Terrell Buckley. The Delta Devils opened the season with losses to Southern (34-29) and Tarlteton State (59-3).
 
Joshua Brown (22-for-44, 259 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT) and Brandon Nunez (6-for-18, 153 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT) have shared time under center for a MVSU offense that is averaging 16.0 points and 270.0 yards per contest. Brown also leads the team with 90 rushing yards, while 13 different players have caught a pass.
 
The Delta Devils are allowing 46.5 points and 413.0 yards per game. Cole McKinney leads the team with 11 tackles, while Jamari Stokes has two interceptions.
 
SLU is 2-0 all-time versus Mississippi Valley State, winning both ends of a home-and-home series in the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Since the program returned prior to the 2003 season, the Lions are 18-4 in home openers and enter Saturday's game with a 199-113-3 record at Strawberry Stadium.
 
Following Saturday's contest, SLU will close out nonconference play with a 6:45 p.m. contest at No. 3 LSU. The game between the Lions and Tigers will be televised on SEC Network and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
