Kyra McKelvey selected the Southland Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
McKelvey, a junior opposite from Navarre, Fla., earned the conference's first weekly offensive award for helping the Lady Lions to a 3-0 record at the Southeastern Showdown over the weekend by averaging 3.64 kills per set on a .484 hitting percentage during the three matches. She scored 4.05 points per set with the addition of five block assists to the kills she tallied on the weekend.
The third-year Lady Lions started her season with an errorless .750 hitting percentage match against ULM, getting 12 kills on just 16 attacks without a miscue while adding three total blocks, including her lone solo block on the weekend, against the Warhawks.
In the victory over Louisiana Tech, McKelvey had 13 kills with three errors for a .526 hitting percentage and took part in blocking back two Bulldog attacks.
She wrapped up the weekend by getting 15 kills, one of which put the Lady Lions on set point just after SLU warded off three JSU match points in the fourth set, on 29 total attacks with six errors against Jackson State, coming out the match against the Tigers with a .310 attack percentage. McKelvey was also part of three blocks in the five-set win. In the decisive, fifth set, McKelvey had three kills without an error, including the kill on match point, to complete the comeback triumph.
While this is the first award handed out by the SLC in 2025, this is McKelvey's second career Conference Offensive Player of the Week award, joining one she was honored with on Nov. 4, 2024.
McKelvey and the rest of the Lady Lions (3-0) now embark on an eight-match road trip, starting this weekend as Southeastern takes part in the Central Arkansas Invitational. SLU opens the Invitational at 11 a.m. on Friday against Little Rock (2-1) before wrapping up the event at 12 p.m. Saturday against the host, Central Arkansas (0-2). All matches of the Central Arkansas Invitational will take place in the Prince Center on the UCA campus.
