Southeastern Suffers 3-0 Loss to Troy

SLU falls 3-0 to Troy for its second consecutive road match of the season after a weather delay

TROY, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Troy in its second straight road match Friday evening in the Troy Soccer Complex.

SLU (0-2) suffered its second loss of the season against the Trojans (2-1) as the home team secured the early advantage after a 30-minute weather delay to remain in control of the match. Southeastern goalkeeper Kendall Curran closed out a busy night in the net with 12 saves after playing all 90 minutes of the match.

Both teams came out aggressive after the weather delay at the start of the match as Troy worked to quicken the tempo to its advantage. The Trojans gained an early lead in the seventh minute of the match as senior forward Jiselle Daniels connected in the net to spark a charge, 1-0. Southeastern worked to find its rhythm in the first half to break Troy's momentum. The Trojans continued to push forth their offensive attacks, but SLU turned up its defensive pressure to eliminate Troy's opportunities.

The Lady Lions remained composed while working to formulate their own attacks, but Troy remained physical on their home field to keep the tide of momentum to their advantage. Senior Rylee Franklin seized an opportunity, but chipped it high over the crossbar as Southeastern battled to fuel a run. Curran secured a solid block in the net to deny Troy's chance to extend its lead, but the home team refused to back down as Daniels broke free in the 30th minute of the match. Daniels knocked one home late in the first half to secure a 2-0 edge for the Trojans and her fourth goal of the season.

SLU fought to strike back to cut into the deficit, but could not connect as Troy goalkeeper Taylor Richards locked down the net to finish with four saves. The Lady Lions continued to remain aggressive as they picked up the pace of the match. The Trojans relentlessly pressured Curran in the net, but the junior remained poised to end the first half.

Troy quickly returned from the halftime break with the same intensity, looking to add to its lead. Southeastern regrouped and came out more aggressive early in the second half. Newcomer Charlotte Lewis looked to provide a spark of momentum with a solid opportunity around the net, but could not capitalize as the shot fared wide. Curran remained occupied in the net and blocked the Trojans attacks early in the second half.

The Lady Lions continued to seek their first goal of the season, but Troy's defensive efforts prevailed. Elsa Stedman claimed the Trojans sixth goal of the season off an assist by Hailey Phillips in the 64th minute of the match. Troy finished the match with a 3-0 edge over SLU to extend its two match winning streak.

Southeastern closed out the match with eight shots, four shots on goal and two corner kicks. The Trojans finished with 22 shots, 15 shots on goal, and six corner kicks.

SLU will return to Hammond, America for its home season opener against Jackson State Sunday at 6 p.m. The match against the Tigers will be streamed on ESPN+.
