HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team inked three student-athletes to its 2025 signing class as Brooke Opferman, Kaitlyn Tung, and Loegan Alia will continue their academic and athletic endeavors for the upcoming season, announced SLU head coach Nathan Gillespie.
With three new signatures, the Lady Lions add to their 2025 roster with high anticipation to gear up for the 2025 season. Opferman, Tung, and Alia join the green and gold as junior transfers from Division 1 programs.
Opferman, a midfielder from Pittsburgh, Pa, comes to Southeastern after two seasons at Cleveland State. In her two seasons, Opferman played in 26 matches with nine starts for the Vikings while gaining 11 points with four goals and three assists. Opferman will look to aid SLU as a powerful and dynamic midfielder with a fantastic engine to go from box to box.
"I'm excited about what Opferman can bring to our team," stated coach Gillespie. "She has an excellent ability to turn the defense and attack quickly while impacting the game in both boxes."
Tung, a midfielder from Levittown, N.Y., joins the Lady Lions after two seasons at UMASS-Lowell. With the River Hawks, Tung played in 17 matches with 264 total minutes played.
"She's a very creative and tough midfielder with the ability to get out of tricky situations," commented Gillespie. "She also has a great soccer IQ which allows her to recognize weaknesses and how to exploit them."
Alia, a forward from Las Vegas, Nev., comes to SLU after two seasons at Arizona Western College. Alia played in 36 matches with 20 starts for the Matadors with eight goals, nine assists, and 25 points.
"Loegan has great character and has been playing on one of the top D1 Junior College programs in the country. Her experience in big games will definitely help our program," said Coach Gillespie. "As a player, she leaves everything she has on the field. She has a great understanding of the game and is able to adjust her movements based on her teammates, an ability that we rate highly."
SLU will open with two exhibition matches against Pearl River Community College (Aug. 4) in Poplarville, Miss. and UL-Lafayette (Aug. 9) at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Southeastern will begin its 18-match slate of the 2025 season on the road against Louisiana-Monroe Thursday, Aug. 14 at 5 p.m.
