HAMMOND, La. – The No. 1-seeded Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 10-6, Thursday to No. 8-seeded New Orleans at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in opening day action at the 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Championships Hammond Bracket presented by GeoSurfaces.
New Orleans (26-24) took advantage of a Southeastern (37-15) and an inside-the-park home run by first baseman Bryce Calloway to spark a big, three-run first inning.
UNO added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly.
The Lions broke through in the bottom of the frame. Following a two-out error,
Ben Robichaux launched an opposite-field home run to cut the SLU deficit in half. The two-run homer was Robichaux's eighth of the season.
After the teams traded a pair of scoreless innings, Calloway and Privateer left fielder Tristan Moore launched back-to-back home runs leading off the fifth. It was Calloway's second homer of the game and Southland-leading 16
th of the season. For Moore, it was his 11
th of the season.
Three consecutive, two-out singles by
Conner O'Neal,
Peyton Woods and
Giovanni Licciardi produced a run for the Lions in the bottom of the frame.
UNO extended its lead in the seventh to 10-3, taking advantage of three consecutive, two-out walks to load the bases. Back-to-back hits plated three runs. A fourth scored on an error.
Southeastern got a pair back in the bottom of the inning. Following a two-out hit batter, pinch-hitter
Bailyn Sorensen launched a two-run homer to left-center field. It was his second home run of the season.
Jude Hall's solo home run leading off the eighth for the Lions wrapped up the scoring. It was Hall's eighth of the season.
Privateer reliever Zach Longshore (2-5) earned the win, allowing one run in 3.0 innings pitched. He surrendered four hits and three walks, striking out three batters.
Brennan Stuprich (9-5) suffered the loss, allowing six runs – four earned – in 5.0 innings pitched. The redshirt senior from Kenner, Louisiana struck out four batters to bring his career total to 279 strikeouts, one shy of the program record. He also moved into first place on the SLU career innings pitched (321.0) list, bypassing Tate Scioneaux (2013-15).

Southeastern faces No. 5-seeded McNeese at 1 p.m. Friday in an elimination game at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in second-day action at the 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Championships Hammond Bracket presented by GeoSurfaces.
All games in the Hammond Bracket, which runs through Sunday, will air on ESPN+. The winner of the Hammond bracket meets the winner of the Edinburg bracket in the best-of-three championship series, May 22-24, at the highest remaining seed.
