HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team hosts Incarnate Word in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, highlighted by an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Super Lion Saturday.
Southeastern (23-6, 9-3 SLC) opens up the series against UIW (13-18, 1-14 SLC) with a single game Friday at 6 p.m. Originally scheduled for single games Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the potential for inclement weather necessitated wrapping the series a day early.
Fans can listen to game broadcasts in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 The Lion. In addition, an audio stream is available online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and MyTuner Radio apps. The MyTuner app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late-model automobiles.
All three games will be carried on ESPN+. Live stats will be available in the Lions Gameday Experience app and online at www.LionSports.net.
Friday's game is Youth Sports Night. Youth sports teams (8th grade and under) wearing their jersey to the game will receive free admission. They will also be able to stand on the field with their favorite Lion player during the National Anthem.
Saturday's doubleheader is part of the annual celebration of all things Lion Athletics, better known as Super Lion Saturday. The SLU Alumni Association will celebrate from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the grassy area adjacent to the right-field parking lot. Local band Open Range will provide musical entertainment, while the event will feature an Easter egg hunt on the football field, food trucks, yard games and a bounce house. Northshore Broadcasting will also provide a live remote from the event. Inside the ballpark, fans will be able to play Baseball Bingo.
The Lions are coming off a non-conference win over South Alabama this past Tuesday and a series victory at New Orleans to claim the Pontchartrain Bowl trophy for the sixth time in the last 10 years.
SLU, which is hitting .305 as a team, ranks 11th nationally with 53 home runs. The Lions are second in the nation in both shutouts (6) and double plays turned (31), ranking fifth with a 3.32 ERA.
The Lions are led at the plate by
Ryan Brome (.387, 11 HR, 29 RBI),
Giovanni Licciardi (.379, 14 RBI),
Dane Watts (.366, 2 HR, 19 RBI) and
Ben Robichaux (.329, 6 HR 16 RBI). Brome leads the conference in home runs.
UIW rolls into the series having dropped their last four games.
Rob Liddington Jr. (.384, 10 HR, 33 RBI), Daniel Calabrese (.357, 3 HR, 27 RBI) and Kegan Magee (.311, 7 RBI) are the Cardinals leading hitters this season.
